| We, the Japan International Friendship and Welfare Foundation (JIFF) in collaboration with Thaifs Mae Fah Luang Foundation have been established the GMS Medical Training Center in National Mae Sai Hospital, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, Thailand. The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) comprises Cambodia, the People's Republic of China, Laos People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam. | ||||||||||||||

Mae Fah Luang' is the name that Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother has been widely referred to for over two decades. The key strategies of this foundation are: the creation of alternative employment opportunities , the introduction of Crop Substitution Programmes, vocational training, the creation of gValue-addedh products, attaining self-sufficiency, introduction of education systems and implementation of health services and systems. In GMS Medical Training Center, the trainees are invited from GMS countries in the fields of X-ray, clinical laboratory tests and nursing and will also provide refresh training to medical doctors from GMS countries.The project is planned to continue for three years. Each term of training shall be three months. Number of trainees each year shall be as follows: X-ray: 12 person in the 1st year, 20 person in the 2nd year, 20 person in the 3rd year Clinical Laboratory Test and Nursing is the same as of X-ray. Refresh training for medical doctor: 10 person in 3rd year. The trainees are expected to work in their own countries to fight against three major diseases utilizing their expertise after complete their training. Furthermore, they will spread knowledge of general basic knowledge of public health on top of their expertise in their mother countries. JIFF dispatched lecturers of medical doctor(s), X-ray technicians, nurses, project manager and sub manager from Japan. |

| JIFF donated 9 container of medical equipments
and materials including a CT-scan machine
that installed in Mae Sai Hospital. Other
required medical equipments and materials
purchased from the fund approved by the Japanese
Government. JIFF donated also two used fire engines and an ambulance to Mae Fah Luang Foundation in Thailand. |

| In cooperatiuon with JICA, JIFF accepted
21 trainees from Thailand in June 2006.
